Meaning of Clothing and Garments in Dreams

Interpretation of Body-Worn Garments in Dreams

Clothing worn on the body, such as shirts, robes, waistcloths, or other fabrics, holds specific meanings in dreams.

  • For an unmarried person, dreaming of such garments signifies marriage or forming a beneficial relationship with someone.

  • If the dreamer’s wife is pregnant, it foretells the birth of a son, purchasing a servant, or receiving benefits from parents, children, or relatives. It could also indicate ownership of a house or garden or receiving monetary gains proportionate to the dreamer’s skills and capabilities.

If the dreamer sees themselves possessing items with feminine names in Arabic (e.g., a long-sleeved cloak, cap, robe, pillow, or other similar clothing), it symbolizes benefits gained through women, maidservants, land, agriculture, relatives, or friends.

Examples of Dream Interpretations

Wearing a Shirt Backward:

A man dreamt that he wore his shirt backward, with the back facing the front. He narrated this dream to Shaykh Imam Qarafi, who said:
“Your wife or maidservant has a defect, possibly watery eyes or some other flaw.”
The man confirmed, “You are correct.”

Another person narrated the same dream, and Shaykh Imam Qarafi interpreted it differently:
“You either engage in intercourse through the wrong means with your wife or are involved with young boys.”
The man replied, “I repent.”

Silk Cloak with a Collar and Fine Waistcloth:

A man dreamt of wearing a silk cloak with a collar and a high-quality waistcloth. Imam Qarafi interpreted:
“You have a woman with a beautiful facial mole or mark, but she frequently suffers from headaches.”
The man confirmed this. Imam Qarafi added:
“If the cloak is new, she will stay with you; otherwise, you will separate.”

Dreaming of a Beautiful, Patterned Cloth:

Another person dreamt of having a new, beautiful cloth with intricate designs. Imam Qarafi asked:
“Are you planning to purchase a house?” The man replied, “Yes.” Imam Qarafi said: “You will buy a house that is well-furnished.”

In a similar dream, another individual said they wore the cloth but felt discomfort from it. Imam Qarafi explained:
“You are under the authority of a man who owns many livestock. Outwardly, he appears pleasant and noble, but inwardly, he is corrupt. He sometimes supports you and at other times opposes you.”
The dreamer confirmed, “You are right.”

Receiving a Cloth in a Dream:

A wealthy man dreamt that someone had made a cloth for him. Imam Qarafi interpreted:
“The word ‘cloth’ (kisa) implies that the person has written you a letter explaining their situation.”
The man replied, “You are correct; here is the letter.”

Wearing Clothes Made from Melon Peels:

Another person dreamt of wearing clothes made from melon peels. Imam Qarafi interpreted:
“You will fall ill during melon season, possibly with jaundice.”
