Good Dreams Come to Good People: Conditions for Receiving Righteous Dreams
In Islamic teachings, good dreams are often seen as a blessing to the pious, while dishonest people are likelier to experience deceitful or troubling dreams. Islamic scholars of dream interpretation have laid down specific conditions for having good dreams.
Here are some of the critical conditions to follow:
Righteous and Pious Heart
A person must strive to be righteous and God-fearing to the extent that the heart is clear and pure, like a mirror. This purity allows one to receive accurate and meaningful dreams.
Performing Ablution Before Sleeping
One should always sleep in a state of ablution (wudu). This practice brings spiritual purity and is believed to shield the person from bad dreams.
Sleeping on the Right Side and Reciting a Special Prayer
It is recommended to sleep on the right side and recite the following prayer before sleeping:
“اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ الاحلام وَ اسْتَغْفِرُكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانَ فِي الْيَقْظَةِ وَالْمَنَامِ”
“O Allah, I seek Your protection from evil dreams, and I ask for Your forgiveness from Shaytan (the devil) in both wakefulness and sleep.”
This prayer serves as a means of protection against negative dreams and bad influences.
Consuming Lawful Food and Speaking Truthfully
The phrase “Halal food and truthful speech” is well-known. These are considered the “two wings” of purity and sincerity. Without these two “wings,” one cannot ascend to a higher state of spiritual insight, just as a bird cannot fly without both wings.
