Interpretation of Dreams About Chickens and Ducks
Chickens:
Owning chickens or ducks in a dream symbolizes the acquisition of wealth and property.
A chicken in a dream represents a beautiful but foolish woman who bears many children.
Seeing a chicken in a dream also indicates periodic improvement in financial stability.
A rooster in a dream symbolizes a man with a good voice, such as a muezzin, preacher, or mediator, as roosters crow periodically.
A rooster can also signify a servant, livestock, or, if the dreamer is a pregnant woman, the birth of a child.
A rooster in a dream might also indicate the return of a traveler or the arrival of someone better.
If a rooster pecks at the dreamer or disturbs them with its crowing, it indicates potential trouble caused by one of the aforementioned individuals.
If someone dreams of turning into a rooster, it suggests that their death is imminent.
Ducks:
- Hearing the sound of ducks in a dream symbolizes sorrow, grief, or mourning women.
Specific Dream Examples:
A person told Imam Qarafi that they dreamed of swallowing a rooster and feeling delighted. The Imam interpreted this as: “You vacated your home for a devout and pious individual.” The person confirmed this interpretation.
Another person dreamed they turned into a rooster and stood on the horns of a bull. Below was a net containing grains, which the rooster ate while crowing. Imam Qarafi told him: “You give the call to prayer (adhan) from two minarets and make inappropriate remarks upon seeing a woman there.” The man repented after hearing this interpretation.
A man dreamed he transformed into a large bird with a red crest like that of a rooster and gave his feathers to benefit others. The Sheikh said to him: “You are a cloth merchant. If all your feathers are lost, it means you will face loss, poverty, and uselessness. If the feathers remain intact, you will profit.”
Someone dreamed they turned into a rooster and pecked at a pomegranate, eating part of it. The interpreter said: “You are a muezzin. You once visited a place, perhaps an inn or mansion, and stole from some of its rooms.” The man admitted this had happened years ago.
Imam Shihab al-Din Qarafi said:
- If someone dreams of a chicken transforming into a rooster, it means that any woman or maidservant they have will lose the ability to bear children. If the chicken symbolizes benefit, that benefit will end. However, if it represents a foolish woman, she will become more cheerful, as this aligns with a rooster’s nature.
If someone dreams of a chicken transforming into a cow, it signifies that the woman will live a long life but her benefits or utility will diminish over time.
- If someone dreams of a chicken transforming into a rooster, it means that any woman or maidservant they have will lose the ability to bear children. If the chicken symbolizes benefit, that benefit will end. However, if it represents a foolish woman, she will become more cheerful, as this aligns with a rooster’s nature.
