Islamic Dream Interpretation of Passing Wind, Nasal Mucus, and Saliva

Interpretation of Passing Wind in Dreams:

Ustadh Shihab al-Din al-Qarafi states:

“If, in a dream, people hear the sound of someone passing wind or notice its foul odor, it is a sign of people speaking ill about the one who passed wind. However, if there is no sound and no unpleasant smell, the act of passing wind in a dream symbolizes comfort and benefit in interpretation.”

A person once told me that he dreamt of having a lot of air trapped in his chest. He went near some animals and released all the air, which brought him relief. I said to him, “You confide in someone who does not share your secrets with others, and this brings you peace.”

In my opinion, if someone suffering from colic or kidney stones sees such a dream, it indicates recovery. Regarding kidney stones, I have personally experienced the success of this interpretation.

Interpretation of Nasal Mucus and Saliva in Dreams:

Imam Shihab al-Din al-Qarafi said:
“If someone sees in a dream that nasal mucus and saliva are flowing excessively from their nose and mouth, falling onto their clothes, it signifies distress and hardship.

Sometimes, seeing saliva in a dream indicates false or inappropriate speech. Other interpreters state that nasal mucus in dreams symbolizes offspring. They cite the narration in which it is mentioned that when a lion sneezed, a cat was born from the mucus that came out of its nose.

Some have said that if a person sees themselves expelling mucus from their nose in a dream, it signifies that their debt will be repaid, and they will be relieved of all troubles.

If someone dreams that their wife drops nasal mucus on them, it indicates the birth of a son or that the wife will wean their infant child.

If a woman dreams of dropping nasal mucus on a man’s bed, it signifies that the man will engage in an illicit relationship with her.

If a person sees themselves eating nasal mucus in a dream, it means they will consume the wealth of their son.

If someone dreams of blowing their nose into an animal’s ear, it suggests that someone else’s child will be attributed to them.

Saliva in Dreams:

In dreams, saliva represents wealth. If it contains blood, it signifies unlawful earnings.

If someone dreams of spitting on a wall, it means they will spend their wealth on jihad or invest it in trade. If they see themselves spitting on the ground, it indicates they will buy land. If they spit on another person, it signifies slandering that person.

Warm saliva in a dream symbolizes longevity, while cold saliva indicates death.

Dry saliva also represents death.

If a person dreams of saliva coming out of their mouth, not landing on their body, and people picking it up with their hands, it symbolizes the person playing tricks or deceiving others.

If blood is mixed with the saliva, it means that lies are involved in their work or business.

If someone dreams of water flowing from their mouth, it means they will live a comfortable life.

In dreams, phlegm symbolizes insufficient wealth.

If a sick person dreams of spitting out phlegm, it signifies recovery from their illness.
