Islamic Dream Interpretation of Fainting, Intoxication, and Madness

Interpretation of Fainting and Intoxication in Dreams

If someone dreams that they faint or experience a state of intoxication due to the fear of Allah, or while reciting the Quran, or while listening to a sermon, it is a sign of their devotion and adherence to the teachings of the Shariah. In such a state, the person’s outward focus is detached from worldly affairs, while their inner self is engaged in the remembrance of Allah. Therefore, this dream symbolizes peace, the repayment of debts, the repentance of a sinner, or the conversion of a disbeliever to Islam.

This dream also signifies that the dreamer will find comfort from the person who, in terms of interpretation, symbolizes the essence of Allah’s presence.

A different individual told Imam Quraifi, “I saw in a dream that I was reciting this verse, and I felt a state of intoxication come over me:

“This is the home of the Hereafter which We assign to those who do not desire arrogance or corruption upon the earth; and the good end is for the righteous”
(Ash-Shu’ara 28:83)

Imam Quraifi replied, “You will hold a high office and own properties and many houses. You have told a scholar that you wish to leave your position and donate your best properties. The person you spoke to has a tall figure and a yellow complexion, and his name is Sulaiman.” The individual confirmed, “You have spoken the truth.”

One person reported to Imam Quraifi that they saw a beautiful voice singing in a dream, and they were swaying in the rhythm. The Imam said, “You will experience harm from a powerful person. One of his servants, wearing colorful clothes, may come to you and threaten you.” The person affirmed, “This has already happened.”

Another person mentioned the same dream but added that it did not occur publicly. Imam Quraifi explained, “A person came to you wearing a sharp-pointed cap and carrying some books.”

Another individual shared, “I saw in my dream that I ate dates and became intoxicated.” Imam Quraifi responded, “You will be troubled by a disease related to the head, possibly jaundice.”

Someone else reported to Imam Quraifi, “I saw in my dream that a date palm tree hit me, and I fainted.” Imam Quraifi replied, “A sharp object, such as an arrow or stone, will strike your head, and you will experience discomfort.”

Interpretation of Madness in a Dream:

Madness in a dream, in the context of difficulty, represents harm caused by disbelievers, sinners, or those who lead corrupt lives. This is because disbelief means to hide or conceal the truth. Similarly, madness represents a state in which the mind is concealed or hidden. Just as devils hide from the eyes of people, sinners cause harm to others. Thus, madness in a dream reflects the difficulty or harm caused by such individuals.
