Islamic Dream Interpretation of Cow, Bull, or Buffalo in a Dream
Interpretation of Seeing a Cow in a Dream:
A cow or bull seen in a dream symbolizes livelihood, a woman, a home, a ship, benefits, or services for the one who becomes its owner.
If the cow is beautiful, it signifies goodness and prosperity; otherwise, it indicates distress.
Imam Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
“A fat cow seen in a dream represents prosperity and abundance, while a lean cow indicates drought or famine. This is derived from the dream of King Walid ibn Mus’ab.”
Some interpreters say that a cow seen in a dream signifies wealth, honour, and prestige.
A cow with horns symbolizes a quarrelsome woman, while a cow that gives abundant milk represents a virtuous woman.
A man once said to Imam Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him):
“I saw in a dream that I was slaughtering a cow.”
Ibn Sirin replied:
“There is a fear that you may harm someone. If you saw the cow’s blood spilling, it could escalate to murder. If no blood was seen, the matter is less dangerous.”
If someone dreams of another person milking their cow without being stopped, it indicates that someone may commit adultery with their wife.
Interpretation of Seeing a Bull in a Dream:
A bull seen in a dream symbolizes a man with great benefits and qualities.
A man once said to Imam Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him):
“I saw in my dream that a small calf came out of a bull, but when it tried to go back, it couldn’t.”
Ibn Sirin replied:
“This represents a grave word that comes out of a person’s mouth. The person may wish to take it back, but they cannot.”
If a person dreams of having the head of a bull or cow, it indicates impending hardship.
If someone dreams of a bull falling upon them, it means they will pass away within the same year.
If a cow’s kick or horn wounds someone in a dream, the person will experience an illness proportional to the wound.
If one dreams of slaughtering a bull or cow, it signifies that someone will leave the area, or the livelihood of the local people will suffer greatly. It may also indicate false accusations against the dreamer.
Seeing a bull in a dream often symbolizes the city’s ruler.
If one dreams of a bull turning into a wolf, it suggests that if the dreamer is a ruler, they are known for justice. If they are not a ruler, it means they have committed oppression or acted unfairly.
If someone dreams of eating a bull’s head, it indicates they will gain authority, wealth, and happiness.
The hide of a cow seen in a dream signifies worthless wealth, which holds no value.
A man dreamed that he collected wool from the back of a cow, which emitted a foul smell. The esteemed scholar Shihab al-Din al-Qarafi interpreted this dream, saying:
“Some thieves will steal wool, and you will recover it from them.”
The scholar further stated:
“If one dreams of taking wool from an animal’s back that does not naturally grow wool, then if the cow represents a woman, the dreamer will have offspring that will not resemble them. If the cow symbolizes benefit, the dreamer will gain benefit from an unexpected source. If it represents trade, it indicates profit for the merchant.”
A person saw in their dream that they were collecting black wool from a cow, which turned into fists upon touching it. Imam Qarafi interpreted it, saying:
“You are a teacher of young children, who are as innocent as cows. However, you steal their ink.”
The dreamer then vowed to stop such behaviour.
Another person saw in their dream that they were collecting silk from an animal’s back and making necklaces and anklets for other animals. The animals willingly accepted the ornaments. Imam Qarafi interpreted this, saying:
“You entertain ignorant people with musical instruments to please them. Soon, your circumstances will improve.”
Another person saw a similar dream, except they placed the necklaces at the door of a pious man’s house. Imam Qarafi explained:
“You recite the call to prayer and the Qur’an melodiously, benefiting many people. Your dream reflects the truth of your impact.”
Interpretation of Seeing a Buffalo in a Dream:
A buffalo seen in a dream is interpreted similarly to a cow, but due to its ability to produce more milk, it is considered superior to a cow.
Some dream interpreters say that a buffalo in a dream represents an extraordinary, civilized, powerful, and courageous leader who bravely endures people’s hardships.
In my opinion, this strength and bravery are evident because wild buffaloes attack pythons and stand fearlessly before powerful animals like lions. Lions often flee from them. However, if a stronger buffalo attacks them, they first retreat but later return to seek revenge.
If a woman dreams that horns like those of a buffalo have grown on her head, it indicates that she will marry a man of high status.
If the woman is already married, the buffalo symbolizes her husband.
