Islamic Dream Interpretation of Seeing Sexual Intercourse in Dreams
If someone sees in a dream that they have engaged in sexual intercourse and experienced ejaculation, then this dream is meaningless and has no interpretation. However, if someone sees in a dream that they had intercourse but did not ejaculate, then this is a sign of good news.
If a person has intercourse in a dream and ejaculation occurs in the dream instead of reality, then the dreamer will achieve their desires. This is because when a man engages in intercourse with his wife, he is fulfilling his needs.
If a person sees in a dream that they have had intercourse but did not ejaculate, then they will engage in an endeavor that will remain incomplete.
Principles of Interpretation Regarding Intercourse with Women:
The fundamental rule regarding intercourse with women in a dream is that it symbolizes good treatment towards them.
If a person sees in a dream that they had intercourse with a close relative (such as a mother, sister, paternal aunt, maternal aunt, etc.), and in reality, they are mistreating such a relative, then this dream indicates that they will fulfill the rights of that relative and treat them well. If they intend to perform Hajj, they will do so, as they have (symbolically) violated a sacred place in the dream. (In Arabic, the word “Waly” means both treading on the ground and engaging in intercourse.)
If the dreamer has a debt, it will be repaid. If they hold others’ trusts, they will return them.
If they have made a vow (Nazar), they will fulfill it. The reasoning behind this is that in a dream, the male organ returns to its original position after intercourse, symbolizing that all obligations and trusts will be returned to their rightful place.
If the dreamer is away from their family and homeland, they will return. The interpretation is based on the fact that intercourse symbolizes union.
If the dreamer is sick, they may pass away, as supported by the following Quranic verse:
“From it (the earth) We created you, and into it, We will return you.”
(Surah Ta-Ha: 55)
If the dreamer has recently recovered from an illness or has been released from prison, they may return to their former state.
Other scholars of dream interpretation have made a distinction:
If a dreamer sees that they engaged in intercourse with a close relative and experienced ejaculation, it indicates they are treating that relative poorly because ejaculation signifies severing family ties. However, if there is no ejaculation in the dream, it means they are treating that relative well.
Someone once asked Imam Ibn Sirin about a dream in which a man saw himself having intercourse first with his mother and then with his sister, considering it a game in the dream. Imam Ibn Sirin replied:
“Such a person mistreats his mother and sister.”
Engaging in intercourse in a dream also symbolizes a lack of acceptance of a worshipper’s prayers and the loss of spiritual benefits because intercourse is associated with worldly pleasures.
A man told Imam Shihab al-Din al-Qarafi that he had a dream where he had intercourse with his mother and his clothes were stained with blood. Imam Qarafi asked: “Did you make a vow to offer a sacrifice?” The man replied: “Yes.”
Another man narrated a similar dream. Imam Qarafi told him: “You will go for Hajj, and a sacrificial offering will become obligatory upon you.”
A third man narrated a dream where his mother became pregnant as a result of intercourse in the dream. Imam Qarafi asked: “Have you planned to slaughter an animal and give it to your mother as a gift?” The man said: “Yes, you are correct.”
A sick person narrated a similar dream. Imam Qarafi interpreted: “You will pass away, and after your death, an animal will be sacrificed for your condolence.”
Another man narrated a dream where he had intercourse with his grandmother, daughter, and sister, but due to excessive bleeding, he did not experience pleasure. Imam Qarafi interpreted: “There is a dispute between you and your relatives due to a past killing. Every time you attempt reconciliation, it fails.” The man confirmed: “You are absolutely right.”
Another man narrated that he saw in a dream that he was having intercourse with his mother, she was touching him, and he was consuming what was being discharged from her private parts. Imam Qarafi said: “You will perform Hajj, but you will consume something unlawful there.”
A devout worshipper narrated a dream where he was engaging in intercourse with multiple close female relatives. Imam Qarafi interpreted: “You will abandon worship due to planting and tending to trees and crops.”
