Interpretation of Fruits in Dreams
Fruits in dreams are of two types: dry fruits, such as dried dates, raisins, figs, and walnuts, and fresh fruits.
Dry Fruits
All dry fruits seen in dreams symbolize sustenance. These fruits can further be categorized into those that are easy to eat and those that are difficult to consume.
A man once came to Imam Ibn Sirin (رحمه الله) and said:
“I saw in a dream that I found forty dried dates at the king’s gate.”
The Imam replied:
“You will be lashed forty times.”
A few days later, the same man returned and narrated the same dream again. The Imam said:
“This time, you will receive a thousand dirhams.”
When the man asked why the same dream had two different interpretations, the Imam explained:
“When you first narrated the dream, it was the end of the year, and the trees had dried up. Now, the season has changed, and the trees are lush and green.”
In my opinion, there is a potential issue with this interpretation since date palm trees do not lose their leaves, and the man’s reference to “dried dates” likely indicated fresh dates that were no longer in season.
Some interpreters say that seeing oneself eating dried dates in a dream indicates recitation of the Quran. Others suggest that eating dates symbolizes pure sustenance or hearing something beneficial and good from someone.
If someone dreams of cutting open a dried date and removing its pit, this indicates the birth of a son, as Allah says:
“Indeed, Allah is the splitter of grain and seed.”
(Al-An’am 6:95)
If one dreams of eating dried dates mixed with tar, this could indicate divorce, but the interpretation may vary depending on the dreamer’s circumstances.
Fresh Fruits
Like dry fruits, fresh fruits in dreams also symbolize sustenance.
Dream interpreters say that if a poor person sees fresh fruits in a dream, it signifies wealth and prosperity, while for a wealthy person, it indicates an increase in wealth, as Allah says:
“And We brought forth grain from it.”
(Ya-Sin 36:33)
If a fearful person sees fresh fruits in a dream, it indicates safety and security, as Allah says:
“There they will call for every kind of fruit, secure [in their dwellings].”
(Ad-Dukhan 44:55)
Some interpreters suggest that fresh fruits symbolize something temporary, as fresh fruits spoil quickly, while dry fruits indicate lasting and abundant sustenance that remains for a long time.
Interpretation of Fresh Dates in Dreams:
Seeing fresh dates in a dream signifies good and pure sustenance.
- If a person sees themselves plucking fresh dates from a tree during the harvest season, it indicates they will receive money from a generous individual, possibly marry a wealthy, influential, and blessed woman, or acquire beneficial knowledge.
- If fresh dates are plucked out of season, it means the dreamer will hear something new or unknown to them.
A Story:
It is narrated that a righteous man used to study under the poet Abu Nuwas. When he saw him drinking wine, he stopped visiting him.
If a distressed person sees themselves eating fresh dates in a dream, it signifies relief from their troubles, as indicated by the Quranic verse:
“Shake the trunk of the palm tree towards you; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates.” (Surah Maryam, 19:25)
If someone sees themselves plucking black grapes from a fresh date tree in a dream, it signifies that their wife will give birth to a dark-skinned child.
A man told Imam Shihabuddin Qarafi that he saw himself plucking dried dates in a dream, which turned into unripe grapes. The Imam explained that the man had exchanged one orchard for another. When asked about the outcome, the Imam replied that if the first orchard yielded dry dates, the new orchard would bring lesser benefit; otherwise, greater.
