Islamic Dream Interpretation of Mountains

Symbolic Meaning of Mountains in Dreams

Since mountains are elevated, seeing them in a dream symbolizes great personalities.

Dreaming of a mountain may indicate attaining a position of authority or the fulfilment of one’s needs, as climbing a mountain typically signifies reaching its peak or a specific destination.

Dreaming of a mountain also symbolizes the removal of fear for the frightened, as mountains offer places to hide.
It can also represent worship since mountains are isolated from populated areas, and worship often involves seclusion.

Seeing a mountain in a dream signifies gaining new knowledge, as standing on a mountain provides a view of new landscapes.
Climbing a mountain in a dream sometimes suggests that the dreamer is a spy because a person on a mountain can observe far and wide without being noticed, just as spies observe others without being recognized due to their disguises.

Climbing mountains or high places can also indicate headaches or eye pain, especially if the pain arises from standing at a high altitude. In such cases, the person feels dizzy, as if the ground is spinning.

Observing revered mountains in a dream points to respected scholars, devout individuals, and pious people. For instance, mountains like Mount Sinai, Mount Qaf, Mount Arafat, and Mount Lebanon symbolize scholars and virtuous individuals in dreams.

If someone dreams of conquering a mountain or reaching its peak, it signifies that they will become the manager of a great man’s affairs or assume a suitable position. It could also indicate financial improvement or the resolution of a pending matter. For the fearful, it signifies peace and tranquillity.

If the mountain’s peak is beautiful, adorned with lush greenery and flowing sweet water springs, it foretells positive outcomes, a prestigious position, and financial prosperity.

If the dreamer is a woman, it may indicate marriage.
However, if the mountain peak is barren or inhabited by dangerous animals, it suggests the dreamer is a corrupt person, and their position or authority will be of a lower status.

Climbing a mountain or a high place with the help of a ladder in a dream symbolizes achieving one’s goals through intelligence, but only if the ascent is easy and the dreamer reaches the top. If the ascent is difficult, exhausting, and unsuccessful, it signifies hardships, prolonged illness, fear, or the difficulty of a task.

If a sick person dreams of reaching a mountain peak, it could signify their death.

If someone dreams of giving the call to prayer (Adhan) or prostrating on a mountain, it means they will triumph over their enemies.

In one dream, a man saw himself climbing a high mountain, trying to capture a wild cow but failing. He then built a golden ladder, climbed it, and successfully caught the cow. When this dream was narrated to Imam Shihabuddin al-Qarafi, he asked how many steps the ladder had. The man replied, “Fifteen.” The Imam interpreted it as a sign that the man would purchase a slave girl for fifteen hundred dirhams from a great person, which indeed happened.

In another dream, a person saw himself building a copper ladder, climbing it to the heavens, and collecting stars called “Zurrah.” Imam Qarafi interpreted this to mean that the person associates with poor people and has climbed the house of a great man to steal pearls or jewellery.

If someone dreams of becoming a great mountain, Imam Qarafi interpreted it as a sign that the dreamer would gain knowledge, keep the company of scholars, or have a son.

If the dreamer ascends a mountain and the mountain gestures to them, it signifies the same.

If the dreamer intends to climb a mountain but cannot and instead climbs a rocky terrain or hill where they find their desired object, it indicates they will fulfil their needs through a humble and modest person.

Descending a mountain in a dream signifies dismissal from a position while descending a valley indicates relief and resolution of difficulties. However, climbing a valley represents hardship and distress.

If someone dreams of falling from a mountain, it means they will suffer harm due to people’s taunts and reproaches, or they may commit a grave sin.

If someone dreams of lifting a mountain, it means they will take responsibility for providing for a great person.

If the mountain becomes too heavy, it indicates that the responsibility will be challenging; otherwise, it will be manageable.

If someone dreams of colliding with a mountain, it means they will try to overthrow or humble a person represented by the mountain (e.g., a great person or scholar).

Dreaming of mountains fighting or moving indicates wars or travels involving significant individuals.

If a mountain looms over someone’s head or a city, it symbolizes fear, danger, and distress.
Mountains collapsing, breaking apart, flying in the air, or burning in fire in a dream signify tribulations and diseases that will claim the lives of great scholars and devout individuals.

This interpretation also applies to rocky terrains and small hills but with a lesser degree of significance than mountains.
