Islamic Dream Interpretation of Upper Floor, Palace, Stairs, Ladders, Doors, Roofs and House Structures
Climbing Upper Floors or Palaces
If someone dreams of climbing an upper floor or palace without stairs or a ladder, it signifies that they will receive advancement or success without anyone’s help or favor, as Allah says:
“We raise in status whom We will.”
(Surah Al-An’am 6:83)
Interpretation of Stairs
Seeing stairs in a dream symbolizes elevation, dignity, and good deeds.
If the stairs are made of wood, it suggests hypocrisy, as Allah describes hypocrites in the Qur’an:
“Like hollowed-out logs propped up.”
(Surah Al-Munafiqoon 63:4)
If the stairs are made of solid bricks, it also symbolizes hypocrisy, as solid bricks are made in fire. However, if the stairs are made from raw bricks and mortar, it is a sign of goodness and well-being.
Interpretation of Ladders
A ladder seen in a dream is a symbol of a hypocritical person.
If someone dreams of climbing a ladder, it indicates their ability to argue or establish proof, as Allah says:
“If you could find a tunnel in the earth or a ladder to the sky, then bring them a sign.” (Surah Al-An’am 6:35)
Some interpreters say that climbing a ladder in a dream represents gossip in a community marked by hypocrisy. Others interpret it as a sign of a journey.
If someone climbs a ladder in a dream to listen to someone, it signifies gaining power and strength. This is supported by Allah’s command:
“Or do they have a ladder by which they listen?”
(Surah At-Tur 52:38)
Fortress Tower (Faseel ka Burj):
Seeing a fortress tower in a dream is an unfavourable sign. A relative of mine once dreamed of being in a tower built on a fortress. I interpreted this dream as indicating that they would soon pass away, as Allah says:
“Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be in towers of lofty construction.”
(Surah An-Nisa 4:78)
If the roof seen in a dream is made of wood, it is a symbol of a person of status and dignity.
If someone dreams of dirt falling on them from the roof, it means that after fear, they will gain wealth.
Seeing a skylight inside the house in a dream signifies the end of troubles, gaining respect, and the possibility of marriage.
A large skylight in a dream indicates the good character of a wife.
A narrow skylight signifies the bad behavior of a wife.
Doors and Entrances
In a dream, the main door of a mansion symbolizes the head of the house. Smaller doors and houses signify different meanings.
The doors of homes represent women.
New doors are associated with unmarried women. Open doors symbolize the abundance of sustenance, while closed doors symbolize financial hardship.
If someone dreams that many doors have crossed their boundaries and entered their mansion, it signifies the destruction of the mansion.
If the doors have not crossed boundaries, it signifies an abundance and expansion of wealth.
Collapse of Houses, Rooms, or Toilets
If someone dreams that they entered their enemy’s house, it means they will gain victory over the enemy, as Allah says in the Qur’an:
“Enter through the door, and when you enter it, you will surely be victorious.”
(Al-Ma’idah, 236)
If someone dreams of having two doors in their house, it is a sign that their wife is involved in something forbidden.
In a dream, a door frame represents the wife.
It is narrated that the esteemed Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) instructed his son and prophet Ismail’s wife to tell her husband to change the door frame. When Ismail returned, his wife conveyed this message, and Ibrahim, upon hearing it, instructed her to divorce him.
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 3364)
Some interpreters say that a door frame in a dream signifies kingship and sovereignty. It is also a symbol of manliness and nobility.
A woman once asked Imam Ibn Sirin about a dream where the upper door frame of her house had fallen onto the lower frame, and both panels fell, one inside the house and the other outside. Imam Ibn Sirin said, “Is your husband and two sons away?” She replied, “Yes.” He said, “The falling of the upper door frame signifies your husband’s return soon. The falling of the outer panel indicates that your sons have married foreign women.” Imam’s interpretation turned out to be correct.
Broken Door, Broken Lock, or Fallen Nails
If someone dreams that their mansion, house, or sitting area has collapsed, it indicates the death of a prominent person in that area the separation of the dreamer from their wife or loved ones, or a worsening of their financial situation.
If someone dreams that a toilet has collapsed or is blocked, it signals that the people of that area will face severe hardships, and it also symbolizes separation from a wife or a servant, or a decline in one’s financial condition. The reason behind this is that a toilet is a place of rest and comfort.
If someone dreams that their door has fallen, a plate has broken, a lock has broken, or nails have come out of the door, it may indicate the following:
If the dreamer is a ruler, they may be deposed.
The dreamer or a relative, servant, or slave may die.
The dreamer may be separated from their wife or friends.
A robbery may occur because the object (door) that had blocked thieves has broken.
The collapse of such places in a dream signifies the spread of justice, safety, and security.
If someone dreams that these places are being rebuilt or newly constructed, the interpretation would be the opposite.
Examples from Imam Qarafi’s Interpretations
Imam Shahab al-Din Qurni says that sometimes the collapse of a prison in a dream can be an indication of the appearance of corrupt individuals, as the place where they were imprisoned has now collapsed.
A person once told me a dream that his house had a prison that collapsed, and smoke was rising from it. I said, “There is a dangerous animal in your house, and it is likely to attack you.” Not long after, a snake attacked him, which had been hiding in his house for some time.
Another person shared his dream that his house had collapsed. Imam Qrafi interpreted it to mean that there were pictures in his house, and those pictures had been bought by a Christian or Jewish person.
Another man saw in his dream that a Magian was breaking apart his house. The Sheikh interpreted it by saying that the place where fire was kindled in the house would collapse.
If a broken roof in a dream is made of wood, it signifies the death of a hypocrite. This interpretation also applies to the breaking of wooden pillars.
Some interpreters say that the collapse of a roof in a dream indicates the death of the head of the household.
If someone dreams that the wall of their house has collapsed, it signifies the person’s bad condition. In light of the story of Khidr (peace be upon him), the collapse of a wall indicates the discovery of a treasure.
If someone dreams that the wall of their house has fallen on them, it means that they will soon face the punishment for their sins.
A person once dreamt that the door of their house had broken. The esteemed teacher, Sheikh Shahab al-Din Qrafi, interpreted it as follows: “You will be afflicted by an illness, which will cause all your teeth to fall out.” Another person mentioned to him that in their dream, they saw the roof of their house had moved from its place. The Sheikh said, “Based on this, either wood will be taken from your door or cupboard, or someone will steal your skylight.”
A woman once shared her dream, saying, “I saw a beautiful hole in the door of my house. I was happy about it and was preventing my husband from passing through it.” Sheikh Qrafi told her, “You have developed affection for someone, possibly a woman. She has caused you to lose respect for your husband, and a rift has been created between you both.”
A person once shared, “I saw a spring of water flowing near the door of my house in a dream. I tried to cross it and got drenched.” The Sheikh replied, “Apart from your wife’s menstruation, she is bleeding continuously. You had relations with her in that state, and you got drenched in her blood.”
Another person shared with the Sheikh, “I saw a net stretched across the door of my house in a dream.” The Sheikh responded, “Your house will be mortgaged.”
Another person told him, “In my dream, I saw that the doors of my skylights had fallen down.” The Sheikh explained, “You will fall ill, and your eyelids will fall out.”
A different man narrated his dream: “I looked through my skylights and saw a white cloud covering all of them.” The Sheikh said, “You will develop whiteness in one of your eyes, and you will no longer be able to see with that eye.”
Another man shared, “In my dream, I saw a spring flowing from near my eye, and the water from the spring filled my heart.” The Sheikh responded, “Your house, near the door or skylight, will collapse. Soon, a thief will enter your house and cause harm.”
All of the interpretations given by Imam Sheikh Shahab al-Din Qrafi, as instructed, came true.
