Islamic Dream Interpretation of Pigeons and Birds in Dreams
Interpretation of Dream Pigeon:
The interpretation of a pigeon in dreams is similar to that of a chicken.
If someone sees a pigeon in a house where a sick person resides, it indicates that the sick person will soon pass away. This is because the Arabic word for pigeon (hamam) can be altered to mean death (mawt).
A pigeon seen in a dream can also symbolize a pious woman.
Additionally, a pigeon represents a messenger of a noble person who delivers letters.
If someone dreams of a pigeon flying away from their house, it indicates either the death of a woman in the household or her divorce.
Seeing the cutting of a pigeon’s wings in a dream signifies that the husband will prevent his wife from leaving the house or that she may become pregnant and be confined to the home.
If someone dreams of cutting a pigeon’s wings for hunting, it indicates that they will call upon someone to create mischief.
The interpretation of pigeons extends to other similar birds kept in cages, regardless of whether they are free, enslaved, or imprisoned.
Interpretation of Dream Birds:
For a bird owner, seeing birds in a dream signifies offspring and wealth that has been preserved.
Imam Shihab al-Din Qarafi said:
“Caged birds symbolize the sick, the imprisoned, and wives because, like birds, these individuals cannot act independently and rely on others for their needs.”
Birds with melodious voices, such as the nightingale and dove, symbolize preachers, orators, reciters, and singers.
If a pregnant woman dreams of a nightingale or dove, or if someone sees such birds while their wife is pregnant, it means they will have a son or purchase a singing maidservant.
If someone has a sick person in their house and dreams of seeing a dove, it indicates that the sick person will recover or their financial situation will improve.
However, if the dove is seen crying, laughing, distressed, or dancing, it indicates the death of the sick person, the return of a missing individual, the worsening of their circumstances, or the departure of their wife.
In some cases, a bird in a cage represents a person imprisoned in jail.
If someone dreams of feeding a bird in a cage, it signifies they will communicate with a prisoner or strive for their release. Alternatively, it may indicate that they will take care of a sick person.
If someone dreams of a bird flying away from a cage without their permission, it suggests the death of a sick person or the departure of a loved one.
One individual dreamed of having a nightingale whose tongue was cut off. He fixed the bird’s tongue, and it recovered.
Imam Shihab al-Din Qarafi asked him, “Do you know how the nightingale’s tongue was fixed?” The man replied, “It was fixed using a piece of glass that flew into its tongue from a bottle.”
The Imam said, “You must know a preacher, orator, or singer who had lost their ability to speak, likely due to a habit of drinking alcohol. You tried to help them return to their work. Perhaps they suffered some trouble from their wife.” The man admitted, “You are correct.”
Another person dreamed of having a musical instrument, part of which was broken, and the rest was eaten by a slave.
The Imam said, “You will repent. The destruction of the musical instrument indicates this. The instrument represents the birds you own; some will die naturally, and others will be consumed by calamities. The slave signifies these calamities.” The interpretation proved true.
