Interpretation of Salat al-Khawf (Prayer of Fear) in Dreams:
A person saw in a dream that a deer was chasing him, and he was fleeing in fear while offering Salat al-Khawf. He narrated this dream to Imam Qurani, who said:
“You will embark on a journey due to fear of a woman.”
Another person told him he dreamt of praying Salat al-Khawf out of fear of trees chasing him. The imam replied:
“You are fleeing from a commitment related to a garden, wood, or fruits.”
The person confirmed that this interpretation was accurate.
Similarly, another man dreamt he was chasing stars and offering Salat al-Khawf. In his dream, he caught a star. The imam interpreted:
“You are owed a debt by an astrologer who is evading you. If you caught the star in your dream, you will recover your debt; otherwise, you won’t.”
Imam Shihab al-Din Qarafi added:
“Praying Salat al-Khawf in a dream symbolizes protection from fear and success.”
Interpretation of Supererogatory (Nafl) Prayers in Dreams:
In dreams, obligatory prayers symbolize one’s essential wealth, while supererogatory prayers signify additional blessings.
If one sees oneself completing supererogatory prayers, it indicates an abundance of good deeds, removal of hardships, and fulfillment of needs.
If the dreamer has a son and sees themselves offering Nafl prayers, it means they will have another son, or possibly two, as Allah says:
“We gave him Isaac and, as an additional gift, Jacob” (Al-Anbiya, 21:72)
Some interpreters state that completing Sunnah prayers in a dream reflects purity, patience during hardships, and good conduct towards one’s family and dependents.
Praying Nafl in a dream represents deep love and the end of troubles, provided the dreamer completes the prayer.
Interpretation of Solar and Lunar Eclipse Prayers (Salat al-Kusuf):
Praying during an eclipse in a dream suggests that the dreamer is striving to protect the symbol of the sun or moon from calamity.
Imam Qarafi said:
“If someone dreams of performing ablution for Salat al-Kusuf, it indicates their efforts to free a prisoner or tend to a sick person.”
A man dreamt of ablution for Salat al-Kusuf and then praying. The imam said:
“You have saved someone from drowning.”
Another person narrated a similar dream, and the imam replied:
“You helped reinstate a dismissed official.”
If someone sees a cluster of stars (e.g., the Pleiades) while offering this prayer, it signifies efforts to rescue a woman from distress.
Interpretation of Salat al-Istisqa (Rain Prayer) in Dreams:
Praying Salat al-Istisqa in a dream indicates seeking betterment in life through connections with influential people.
A man told Imam Qarafi he saw himself performing ablution for this prayer. The imam interpreted:
“You quenched someone’s thirst by giving them water.”
Another man narrated the same dream, and the imam replied:
“You saved someone from drowning.”
Interpretation of Funeral Prayer in Dreams:
Seeing oneself performing the funeral prayer signifies seeking intercession for a wrongdoer with a person of authority or repaying a favor.
A man dreamt of performing ablution for the funeral prayer, and the imam said:
“You interceded with a prominent person for one of their workers.”
Interpretation of Prostration (Sajda) in Dreams:
Prostration in a dream symbolizes success, repentance, deliverance from hardships, and longevity.
If one dreams of prostrating for a goal, it suggests gaining closeness to a powerful person.
If one prostrates on a bed, it signifies a powerful person will obey the dreamer, but the dreamer will disgrace them.
If someone dreams of prostrating to something other than Allah, it indicates failure to achieve their goal. If the dreamer is engaged in a battle, they will face defeat. If a merchant, they will incur losses.
Imam Qarafi explained:
“Prostrating to an idol or tree in a dream symbolizes serving someone who will provide no benefit.”
Other Prayer-Related Dream Interpretations:
Reciting Poetry in Prayer:
Dreaming of reciting poetry during prayer signifies an attempt to gain favor with influential people, but the efforts will be futile.
Praying in a Foreign Language:
This indicates becoming a translator or opposing an authority figure’s wishes.
Praying Without Facing the Qibla:
It suggests a deviation in faith or abandoning one’s religion. If the direction is associated with a need or property, the prayer’s completion indicates success in the matter.
